Since 1978 after the first baby was born with the help of assisted reproduction, these procedures have gained a great level of quality and recognition and its use is widespread all over the world. These days the number of women undergoing this kind of therapy is count in thousands. There are 6 centres for assisted reproduction in Slovakia and the number of in vitro fertilizations done yearly is between 2000 -2500.

Methods of assisted reproduction
IVF – Standard method
IVF is the best known and the most frequently used form of assisted reproduction. IVF is an abbreviation from anglo-latin in vitro fertilization.
In vitro literally means "in glass". During this form of assisted reproduction the process of fertilization takes place in laboratory dishes. Any of assisted reproduction techniques outside of the female`s body is a form of IVF. Initially the IVF method was developed to solve the problem of infertility resulting from blocked or absent Fallopian tubes. These days IVF is used for treatment of other reproductive problems including irregular ovulation, low sperm counts, poor motility and other reasons not yet revealed.
Constantly developing methods of embryonal cultivation and freezing techniques provide high quality laboratory environment favouring long term cryostorage of live embryos.
